Storms Trigger Major Downtown Flooding

CRITICAL INCIDENT NOTIFICATION

FLOODING

Richmond, Va. -- Thunderstorms dropping heavy amounts of rain caused major flooding in downtown Richmond Thursday afternoon. VCU cancelled classes after flooding occurred in numerous places around the Monroe Park campus.

Flooding also occurred on the Downtown Expressway and I-95, with video showing water going over the median barrier. Social media video making the rounds also showed a person swimming in flood waters on Grace Street near the Village Cafe.
