Nicole approaches Florida, forecasted widespread impact to much of southeast

A hurricane watch has been issued for Hallandale Beach in southern Broward up Florida’s east coast to the Volusia/Brevard county line due to an approaching Subtropical Storm. Nicole, a subtropical storm as of early Monday, is forecast to be near hurricane strength, or possibly a hurricane, by midweek, according to the National Hurricane Center’s latest advisory. “It’s not out of the question for Nicole to reach hurricane strength, especially given how warm the waters are in the vicinity of the Bahamas,” experts said early Monday.
