Active Shooter at Elementary School with gunman still at large

UPDATE at 4:34 p.m.

An alert from the Richland School District states that West Richland Police have the suspect's house on lockdown and that the district is working on reunification efforts.

"West Richland Police Department believe to know who the perpetrator and have their house on lock-down. The perpetrator is still at large. The district is working on the reunification efforts. Another update will be sent soon."

According to the Richland Police Department on behalf of the West Richland Police Department, there is an 'active incident' at William Wiley Elementary School.

Claire Venema from RPD says one adult was shot. Their current status and whether or not they are involved with the school is unknown. RPD requests the public to stay clear of the area around William Wiley and South Highlands Boulevard and that updates will come soon.

All schools in West Richland are reportedly on critical lockdown. The suspect is reportedly still at large, according to Venema. No names will be released until the suspect is identified.

The Richland School District pushed out multiple statements via text:

"During dismissal today, there was a shooting at William Wiley Elementary School in West Richland. The perpetrator is still at large. Schools placed in critical lockdown. We will send updates."

"We are currently in communication with the West Richland Police Department to create a plan to reunite students with their families as soon as possible. Your children's safety is our top priority.

"All West Richland school activities and events have been canceled. Practices and activities in schools located within the city of Richland have been moved indoors. More updates to come."
