A tsunami warning was issued in Honolulu after an 8.7-magnitude earthquake struck off Russia’s Far East. Sirens sounded, traffic backed up, and evacuation routes were opened. Some schools canceled activities despite summer break. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center warned of possible waves 1–3 meters high in Hawaii, Chile, Japan, and the Solomon Islands, with over 3-meter waves possible in Russia and Ecuador.

The National Guard was deployed in Texas on Friday after a devastating river flood killed more than a dozen people and swept away dozens of children at a local Christian camp. Heavy rain on Friday morning caused the Guadalupe River to rise nearly 30 feet in 45 minutes. Officials confirmed at least 13 people are dead, including adults and children. At least 20 children attending Camp Mystic remain missing. The camp, which had more than 750 attendees, is being evacuated via
